My name is Kara Jeong and I am the philanthropy chair of Delta Delta Delta at UC Santa Barbara. Back in high school, I participated in my fair share of clubs and organizations. However, I was never as devoted to them as I am to Tri Delta now. The extent of Tri Delta’s impact is astonishing. Our fundraising endeavors benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where children with cancer are treated and their overwhelmed families are taken care of. Since Tri Delta was established, we have raised over $45 million nationally; and in 2014, we proudly committed to raising over $60 million in 10 years for St. Jude. As a chapter we raise over $20,000 each year for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We host events like Delt Dogs, DHOP, and the Trident Classic which facilitate the involvement of the entire UCSB community. We have partnered with another organization on campus to put on events like Delt Dogs, in which we have hot dogs as well as real dogs for people to enjoy. Students loved playing with dogs and distressing while socializing with friends. In 2016, we hosted our first annual capture the flag tournament, the Trident Classic; and last spring, we hosted Delta House of Pancakes, our national philanthropy event where we serve pancakes and work to spread awareness of St. Jude’s mission. We have so many great charity events planned for this upcoming year and I can’t wait to share our love for St. Jude with the rest of our community.
